5 teams that don't deserve a spot in latest College Football Playoff rankings ft. Texas A&M
With the release of Week 11 College Football Playoff rankings, attention turns to who could be in or out of the field. While the top handful of spots in the ranking are just about inarguable, every candidate is not on solid ground.
Here are five teams within the intiial top 25 of the rankings that certainly don't deserve a CFP spot.
5 teams in playoff rankings that don't deserve a CFP spot
5. Kansas State
Admittedly, some team will have to emerge from the Big 12, but with a pair of losses and a sub-par resume, K-State probably isn't that team.
The Wildcats are ranked No. 19 in the CFP, but were hammered 38-9 at BYU and probably doomed themselves with an ugly loss to Houston. A win at Colorado is pretty much the only vaguely positive moment on Kansas State's CFP resume. It's not enough.
4. Colorado
Speaking of the Buffs, Coach Prime's team is one of the hot topics of playoff consideration. They're No. 20 now, but haven't earned it. Aside from the Kansas State loss above, they were blasted by 18 by a Nebraska team stumbling through the back half of the season. There are no ranked opponents other than Kansas State on CU's schedule.
3. Missouri
The Tigers are a 6-2 SEC team and that has gotten them the No. 24 spot in the CFP rankings. But the Tigers' success isn't legit. By far the most impressive win on Missouri's schedule is a three-point victory over Vanderbilt at home.
Meanwhile, they lost to the other two ranked teams they faced by 65 points. The rest of the schedule is weak, and even a 10-2 Mizzou team doesn't deserve the playoff.
2. Louisville
The Cardinals are the only three-loss team in the CFP top 25, ranked No. 22. That alone should be a red flag. After all, the ACC isn't exactly the NFC South. The league has basically played out as Miami and the seven dwarves and Louisville doesn't have a CFP resume. The Cardinals are 1-3 against ranked teams and that third loss should be the end of their CFP story.
1.Texas A&M
At No. 14 in the rankings, A&M is the team of this list with the best CFP spot. Realistically, the path goes through besting Texas to end the regular season. But a 24 point loss to South Carolina really should have already ended the argument. CFP teams don't take four score losses to unranked opponents. LSU is also the only impressive win on A&M's slate.
