5 Washington players to watch out for on Day 2 of 2024 NFL Draft ft. Ja'Lynn Polk and Jalen McMillan
The Washington Huskies were one of the strongest teams in college football last season due to their talented squad, some of whom declared for the 2024 NFL draft. On Day 1, quarterback Michael Penix Jr. went to the Atlanta Falcons, and wide receiver Rome Odunze was drafted by the Chicago Bears.
With Friday's Day 2 upon us, here are five Washington players to look out for.
5 Washington players to watch out for during Day 2 of the NFL draft
# 1 Ja'Lynn Polk
Behind Rome Odunze last season was Ja'Lynn Polk. The wide receiver recorded 1159 yards in 2023, which included 122 yards against the Texas Longhorns in the Sugar Bowl.
Polk has developed into an incredibly fluid player who can be used on many routes with success. However, he has been seen to struggle with running after catching the ball and can be easily tackled due to this. Expect Polk to be a second-round pick.
#2 Jalen McMillan
Seen as the third-best wide receiver in the Huskies program, Jalen McMillan has the potential to become, like Rome Odunze, an NFL star.
His speed and general explosiveness after the snap make him a player who could cause problems for the secondary. However, McMillan missed part of the 2023 season due to injury and was never able to stay at 100%. Expect McMillan to be a third-round pick.
#3 Bralen Trice
Bralen Trice is considered by NFLDraftBuzz as the third-best defensive tackle in the 2024 draft.
One of his strengths is his ability to pressure the quarterback. During the 2023 season, Trice pressured the QB 70 times and had six sacks. However, his tackling is not as strong as it could be, as he has a tendency to aim low, and Trice did not have a strong combine. Still, in what has been an offense-heavy draft, expect Trice to be an early second-round pick.
#4 Roger Rosengarten
Roger Rosengarten was part of the Huskies offensive line last season that was able to protect quarterback Michael Penix.
His strengths include his speed and fast reaction times, along with Rosengarten's ability to combat speed rushers in an effective manner. However, he is weaker than other players, and this will need to be improved on if he is to succeed in the NFL. He should be a good third-round pick.
#5 Jack Westover
The tight end played college football for five years, and in his final year, he recorded 391 yards and scored four touchdowns.
Westover brings a good blend of speed and accuracy to the position and is able to secure the ball quickly. But Westover is not getting a lot of noise surrounding him, and there is nothing special about him. This can be used to his advantage, as there may be a chance that a team that wants to fill its tight end room might consider him a simple, reliable offensive target.
