8 undefeated college football teams heading into Week 10 ft. Oregon

Entering Week 10 of the 2024 college football season, eight undefeated teams remain. With the regular season winding down, the number of unbeaten schools will continue to dwindle. The list will likely be trimmed down further, but here's a quick rundown on the eight undefeated FBS teams and their future paths.

#8. Pittsburgh Panthers (7-0)

Pitt is definitely one of the surprises of this group. Off a 3-9 season, Pitt was expected to finish near the middle of the ACC. That said, the Panthers have a tough schedule in November. They open the month at SMU, which is a College Football Playoff sleeper. If they survive that, Clemson awaits on Nov. 16, with road games at Louisville and Boston College following.

#7. Army Black Knights (7-0)

Army is a surprising 7-0, but the Black Knights will probably be felled by the same giant who just knocked Navy from the list of the undefeated—Notre Dame. That game comes on Nov. 23. Of course, Navy awaits in the season finale, which could decide the AAC title.

#6. Iowa State Cyclones (7-0)

Iowa State has been one of the surprises of the Big 12. While the Cyclones have a five-game November, this schedule shapes up fairly well. Probably the toughest challenge is a home game in the regular season finale against Kansas State. ESPN's FPI gives the Cyclones a 44.7% shot at reaching the CFP.

#5. BYU Cougars (8-0)

BYU has already played another game and has an easier path of a late schedule. The Cougars' game at Arizona State on Nov. 23 is probably the biggest battle left ahead. ESPN gives them a 57.9% playoff shot. Could we end up with a battle of the Big 12 undefeated teams for the conference title?

#4. Indiana Hooisers (8-0)

Nobody saw this coming. Curt Cignetti took over a 3-9 team that had won a combined nine games in the three previous seasons before his arrival. Now, 8-0 Indiana is perhaps a miracle at Ohio State on Nov. 23 away from an undefeated regular season. The good news for the Hoosiers is that ESPN gives them a 68.4% shot at the playoffs, likely even with a loss to OSU.

#3. Penn State Nittany Lions (7-0)

The bottom line for Penn State is that this situation gets serious immediately. If the Nittany Lions handle Ohio State in their home game on Saturday, PSU is an easy favorite for the rest of the season, which has a trip to Minnesota as likely the toughest remaining battle. But that is a big ask. PSU has a great shot at the playoffs regardless.

#2. Miami Hurricanes (8-0)

The Hurricanes should basically be set on cruise control. A trip to Syracuse to end the regular season is probably the toughest game left on the regular season slate. But realistically, the ACC title game is about the only chance left for a Miami loss. The Canes are golden for the playoffs, barring something insane.

#1. Oregon Ducks (8-0)

Oregon doesn't have an incredibly easy November, but there's no big "gotcha" game lurking. Winning at Michigan and Wisconsin really shouldn't be too big of an ask. That would bring the Ducks to the Big Ten title game. As they play neither undefeated Indiana nor undefeated Penn State (and those two don't play each other), that whole picture is still incredibly complicated.
