ACC conference realignment: 3 Mountain West teams that can join Jim Phillips' FBS powerhouse in 2024

The Atlantic Coast Conference needs to figure things out as it faces major issues. ACC conference realignment could help the conference grow, and they are not specifically targeting power conference schools, as evident by the addition of the SMU Mustangs. Let's take a look at potential additions from the Mountain West Conference that ACC Commissioner Jim Philips should target.

Mountain West teams that can join ACC through conference realignment

Boise State Broncos

Just imagine the blue turf being seen in a Power Five conference on a weekly basis. The Boise State Broncos have shown the ability to do incredibly well as they were able to finish 8-6 last season. They played a pair of Power Five teams last year and lost 56-19 against the Washington Huskies and lost 18-16 against the UCF Knights, but did show their ability to compete. Adding Boise State could make waves in the ACC conference realignment.

UNLV Rebels

The UNLV Rebels have been one of the more intriguing schools and a jump to the Atlantic Coast Conference could be in order. Under coach Barry Odom, their football program seems to be turning around, achieving their first winning season since 2012. With a solid college basketball program, they can compete well with other ACC programs in multiple big sports. This makes them a strong target for Jim Phillips to target in conference realignment.

Air Force Falcons

The Air Force Falcons are one of the more intriguing teams with their ability to dominate despite not really having much of a passing game. If Jim Phillips wants to give the Atlantic Coast Conference an identity, adding Air Force and their high octane rushing offense could really be a boost. With a 9-4 record in 2023, they have proven their ability to win in football. This would be an interesting school for Jim Phillips to target.
