“As cliche as it is, just trust the process”: Jalen Milroe relies on advise from Nick Saban despite his absence from Alabama
Nick Saban is one of the greatest college football coaches in the game's history, which fairly translates into his coaching record. He has compiled a 274-67-1 overall score in 26 years with the job.
Coach Saban has a total of nine SEC titles to his name, seven of which were at Alabama and two at LSU in 2001 and 2003.
Alabama also won six national championships under Saban and the latter ended his career with an impressive 12-2 record in his last season.
Nick Saban has created a legacy at Alabama which is now handed over to Kalen DeBoer to take further.
In a conversation on Next Up With Adams Breneman, Alabama's QB1 Jalen Milroe mentioned one advice that's helping him stick to the Crimson Tide in the post-Nick Saban era:
"As cliche as it is, trust the process. I think that's the biggest thing that I took from Coach Saban and trust in the process, because everybody's process is different.
"It's all about trusting in the program as a whole, and trusting yourself for whenever your opportunity presents itself, maximize, you know, and prepare the right way. And one thing that, you know, he did was better us into men, you know, beyond the player, but building a brand for yourself on the field and then carry on to off the field for all of us." (13:25)
Jalen Milroe on Alabama's mentality going into the 2024 season
After Nick Saban gave up his throne at Alabama, former Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer took the reins as he was appointed the next head coach.
After a few rocky days when many Alabama players like Amari Niblack and Isaiah Bond decided to enter the transfer portal, DeBoer was quick to turn the momentum. He managed to retain talent powerhouses like Jalen Milroe and Malachi Moore while recruiting players like 5-star wide receiver Ryan Williams.
Milroe was Alabama's starting quarterback last year and will continue in that position this year. Milroe has proven himself both as a leader and as an exceptional quarterback.
In the 2023 college football season, Jalen Milroe completed 23 touchdowns, made six interceptions and threw for 2,843 yards.
During an interview with The Spun, Milroe opened up about his mindset going into the 2024 college football season:
"I think the challenge is for other teams to stop us. We have a starving group that's in the locker room. That's the thing that we have, that mentality to try and improve and get better as a whole."
Fans would be intrigued to see how Alabama performs during their first season without Nick Saban in 17 years.
