Ashton Jeanty drops a massive claim about himself amid his Heisman battle with Travis Hunter
As the 2024 college football regular season continues to wind down, there is a lot of discussion regarding the Heisman Trophy. With some outstanding players in Power conferences at the top of the odds, Ashton Jeanty is making a bold case to win the highest individual award in the entire country.
When asked by ESPN's Marty Smith if he believes he is the best player in college football, Boise State Broncos running back Ashton Jeanty had a simple three-word reply:
"I think so."
The full segment, including a sit-down interview with Jeanty, is posted below from the ESPN College GameDay social media account.
Will Ashton Jeanty win the 2024 Heisman Trophy?
This is something that really depends on Ashton Jeanty's end of the regular season as well as how other players toward the top of the Heisman Trophy odds are able to do.
So far this season, Jeanty has 190 rushing attempts for 1,525 yards (8.0 yards per carry) with 20 rushing touchdowns. He has also been able to catch passes as he has recorded 14 receptions for 81 yards (5.8 yards per catch) with a receiving touchdown as well.
According to the DraftKings Sportsbook, Jeanty currently has the fourth-highest odds to win the 2024 Heisman Trophy Award. Below is the top 10 odds to win the award at time of writing:
- Cam Ward, Miami (+180)
- Travis Hunter, Colorado (+210)
- Dillon Gabriel, Oregon (+320)
- Ashton Jeanty, Boise State (+500)
- Jaxson Dart, Ole Miss (+1600)
- Kurtis Rourke, Indiana (+2200)
- Shedeur Sanders, Colorado (+3500)
- Jalen Milroe, Alabama (+5000)
- Quinn Ewers, Texas (+6000)
- Garrett Nussmeier, LSU (+7500)
While Jeanty should be a finalist for the 2024 Heisman Trophy, it is going to be difficult for him to continue playing as well as he has been and surpass three premier players in the odds.
If there has to be a pick right now, it is difficult not to go with Colorado two-way player Travis Hunter. He has been playing as a top-five cornerback as well as an incredible wide receiver. No other player on the board is going to be able to do so and the voters are likely going to award that.
