Coastal Carolina vs UTSA: Preview

Coastal Carolina is a 10-point underdog, while the over/under is set at 55.5 points.

The Chanticleers won their final game on the road to get bowl-eligible. Coastal Carolina is without quarterbacks Noah Kim and Ethan Vasko who are in the portal, meaning Tad Hudson, who has yet to take a snap this season will start.

Coach Tim Beck is excited to see what Hudson has in the bowl game.

“Now they’re getting more and more reps, and they’re showing and executing at a higher level than they were when they first got put in there, right? They’ve seen the gameplan. We’ve put the gameplan together, and they’re starting to execute and have more confidence," Beck said, via WMBFnews.
"So our guys are getting excited. As I mentioned in my press conference, when you see a guy come off the bench and you see a guy come in, you have some of the veterans and older people, players rally around them, and that’s happening right now, and it’s fun to watch."

The Chanticleers will also be without starting OLB Clev Lubin, and starting TE Kendall Karr.

Coastal Carolina will rely on its ground game, as Braydon Bennett rushed for 727 yards and 11 touchdowns on 112 carries. Jameson Tucker is the top receiver who had 31 receptions for 540 yards and 6 touchdowns.

UTSA, meanwhile, enters the game with not too many key players entering the portal, as only one starter is in the portal in defensive end Ronald Triplette.

The Roadrunners will be led by quarterback Owen McCown who threw for 3,170 yards, 24 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Robert Henry has rushed for 706 yards and seven touchdowns, while Willie McCoy caught 28 passes for 536 yards and four touchdowns.

Coastal Carolina's offense should struggle, as the Chanticleers have a freshman quarterback starting. UTSA should likey force a turnover or two to help the Roadrunners get a blowout double-digit win.

McCown has also been stellar this season as he should pick apart Coastal Carolina's defense here.

Prediction: UTSA 34, Coastal Carolina 17
