The 2024 college football season is right around the corner as teams make their final preparations for the upcoming season. The competition for a national championship will be fierce as the College Football Playoff expands from four teams to 12.

Several teams enter the season with their sights set on a shot at a championship. Here is an inside look at five of the top college football teams with the best odds to win a national title in 2024 via DraftKings.

#5 Alabama (+1400)

The Alabama Crimson Tide will be under new leadership in 2024 as Kalen DeBoer takes over for Nick Saban after his retirement. Alabama has been a powerhouse in college football, and they are hopeful that DeBoer can continue the program's success by winning their fourth national title in the last decade.

Alabama lost several key players through the transfer portal following Saban's retirement but brought in WR Germie Bernard and C Parker Brailsford to reunite with their coach from Washington.

Oregon was on the brink of making the College Football Playoff last season but fell just short. With Bo Nix off to the NFL, Oklahoma transfer Dillon Gabriel will take over as the team's starting quarterback this season. The sixth-year senior has four seasons with over 3,000 passing yards along with 125 touchdowns.

Dan Lanning's defense also received some major upgrades from the transfer portal, including Jamaree Caldwell, Kam Alexander, Jabbar Muhammad, Kobe Savage, and Brandon Johnson.

The Texas Longhorns are tied with Oregon for the third-highest odds to secure the 2024 college football national title. But the experience of playing in the College Football Playoff semifinal last season and their returning weapons give them an edge on this list.

Quinn Ewers returns as the team's starting quarterback after throwing for 3,479 yards last season and will be protected this year by an experienced offensive front.

Texas lost some key receivers from last season to the NFL but brought in Isaiah Bond, Matthew Golden, and Silas Bolden from the transfer portal. They also secured UTSA transfer Trey Moore to lead their pass rush.

Kansas State transfer Will Howard takes over at quarterback, with leadback TreVeyon Henderson returning. Ole Miss transfer Quinshon Judkins joins Henderson in the backfield, with top freshman recruit Jeremiah Smith joining the receiving core.

The Buckeyes defense will see the return of Jack Sawyer and Tyleik Williams, with Alabama transfer Caleb Downs joining the secondary.

Beck will have an experienced offensive line protecting him, with Dominic Lovett and Dillon Bell taking over the starting receiver spots. RB Trevor Etienne will join the Bulldogs this season after transferring from Florida.

The experienced defense features many returning players, including SS Malaki Starks and Mykel Williams. They will be joined by top freshman recruits FS KJ Bolden and CB Ellis Robinson IV.
