Colorado Buffaloes Transfer Portal: Top 5 recruits who joined Coach Prime in Boulder so farĀ
Since his hiring at Colorado, the transfer portal and all of college football have had to adjust for head coach Deion Sanders. "Coach Prime" has shaken up the game, taking the Buffaloes from a laughing stock to one of the most interesting and improved programs in the nation in two short seasons. Despite a 9-3 regular season, his work is hardly finished.
Here's a closer look at five impressive transfer portal grabs by Colorado so far.
Colorado Buffaloes Transfer Portal: Top 5 new recruits joining Coach Prime's team
#5. Aki Ogunbiyi, OL
Ogunbiyi is a veteran offensive lineman who was steady and impressive at Texas A&M. He was actually with the Aggies for five seasons, but the 2020 season didn't count against his total and in 2024, he redshirted after playing only three games.
A four-star recruit from Texas, Ogunbiyi has played every offensive line position except center for the Aggies. His versatility and experience make him a standout, even as a player with just a single season left to play.
#4. Joseph Williams, WR
Williams was a three-star recruit for Tulsa out of Texas. But in his first season of college, the 6-foot-2 wideout played his way straight out of that class of competition. Williams had 30 catches for 588 yards and five touchdowns for Tulsa.
Accordingly, his entry into the portal was a bit more celebrated than his high-school recruitment. While "Coach Prime" has certainly gotten impressive play from receivers, he had some vacancies and probably filled one nicely with Williams. He's got three full seasons to play and might be Sanders' next star wide receiver.
#3. Carter Miller, OL
Miller is in his third stop and is a well-seasoned offensive lineman. He started his career at James Madison, where he spent two seasons. He spent last season at Louisiana-Monroe. Miller redshirted in 2022 but has seen significant action in the last two seasons at two different schools. He's mostly played center.
Miller has two more seasons of eligibility. He'll help a Colorado offensive line that made strides but still struggled at times in protecting QB Shedeur Sanders. Miller should be a day-one starter for the Buffs.
#2. Kaidon Salter, QB
Kaidon Salter is a dual-threat QB who lit up college football with Liberty in 2023 before struggling in 2024. At Liberty in 2023, he passed for 2,876 yards and 32 touchdowns for six interceptions while rushing for 1,089 yards and 12 touchdowns.
His 2024 season was a bit of a downhill move, as he threw for 1,886 yards and 15 scores against six interceptions while rushing for 587 yards and seven touchdowns. Salter has a single season of eligibility but will step into the large shoes left behind by Shedeur Sanders at Colorado's QB spot.
#1. Jeheim Oatis, DL
A massive defensive tackle who was a four-star recruit at Alabama, Oatis could be a game-changer at Colorado. Oatis saw significant snaps in 2022 and 2023 at Alabama, finishing with 55 tackles and three tackles for loss over two seasons. Oatis played in four games in 2024 before deciding to opt out of the season and transfer.
He's subsequently got two years for Colorado. Oatis could have a massive impact, literally and metaphorically, up front for the Buffs, who previously struggled to recruit the kind of skill and size that Oatis brings to the table.
