Danny Kanell gives Mike Norvell one move to save the season amid DJ Uiagalelei woes
The Florida State Seminoles have not been able to do much offensively this season and are now 0-3. A lot of the blame falls on senior quarterback DJ Uiagalelei. After transferring to the program in the offseason, he has not hit the ground running, and his team has failed to win a game a single game as a result.
CBS Sports' Danny Kanell took to X during the Florida State Seminoles' 20-12 home loss to the Memphis Tigers to call for DJ Uiagalelei to be benched.
This is the second time in the Mike Norvell era that the Seminoles have started 0-3 but it seems like things could get worse. Through the first three games of the season, DJ Uiagalelei has gone 56-of-99 (56.6%) for 666 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
Who is the backup quarterback to DJ Uiagalelei this season?
Benching a quarterback is tough to do as you could potentially lose that player for the remainder of the season mentally. However, the team is running out of time.
The main backup is Brock Glenn, who saw some minutes toward the end of last season when the Seminoles were facing injuries. While he looked overmatched as a lot of true freshmen do, it gave people expectations and a floor for his productivity. Glenn finished the 2023 season going 19-of-51 (37.3%) for 229 yards with zero touchdowns and two interceptions. He was essentially the third-string quarterback last season but started in the ACC Championship Game as well as the Orange Bowl due to injuries
Brock Glenn could see action relatively soon, especially if this is viewed as a lost season as the Seminoles could want to see what they have in terms of the future. This is a tough spot to be in, but do not be surprised to see a change in the next few weeks if things do not drastically change.
