Deion Sanders at Big 12 media days 2024: Top 5 questions we want Colorado's HC to answer

Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes are gearing up for their season opener against North Dakota State on August 29. Their next order of business will be attending 2024 Big 12 Media Days, which takes place on July 9 and 10 in Las Vegas.

Deion Sanders will be joined by Shedeur Sanders, Shilo Sanders, Travis Hunter, and Mark Vassett as they represent Colorado at the event. The coach and student-athletes will address the media on a variety of topics in the upcoming season.

Here, we will highlight five questions we would like Colorado head coach Deion Sanders to address during this year's Big 12 Media Days.

#1 Can the offensive line improve from last season?

The top priority for Colorado in the upcoming season will likely be protecting their starting quarterback, Shedeur Sanders. Deion Sanders can't be happy with his offensive line that gave up 56 sacks last season and allowed just 2.3 yards per carry.

The offensive line play will need to improve this season so they can give Sanders time in the pocket to find his other playmakers downfield and open up the run game.

They already lost a number of players to the transfer portal but have also brought in new members of the offensive line, including Jordan Seaton, Justin Mayers and Khalil Benson.

#2 How will the team adjust to the Big 12?

The move to the Big 12 this season could benefit Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes. They played in a challenging Pac-12 conference last season with top teams like Washington, Oregon, Arizona, Oregon State, Utah and USC.

The Buffaloes finished last season with an overall record of 4-8 and secured just one win against a Pac-12 opponent.

Now, Colorado will move to the Big 12, which will be losing two of the top teams from 2023, Texas and Oklahoma. It will be interesting to hear Deion Sanders' thoughts on how he sees his team fitting into their new conference.

#3 Can they find an early-season replacement for Shilo Sanders if needed?

Shilo Sanders will be a popular topic during Big 12 Media Days due to the surgery on his shoulder and filing for bankruptcy. Sanders wore a brace during the Buffaloes spring game but is hoping to be back for the season opener against North Dakota State.

However, if Shilo Sanders is not ready to return for the season opener, questions will be asked if Deion Sanders has suitable replacements for him in the secondary.

They brought in transfers Savion Riley and Herman Smith, who should be able to handle an increased role if Shilo misses any time. Travis Jay is a returning defensive back who could also serve as an early replacement.

#4 Will the defense improve this season?

As a former NFL defensive back, having poor defensive play from his team will be unacceptable for Deion Sanders. After ranking 124th in the country in opponent points per game last season, questions will surround Sanders on whether his defense will improve in 2024.

Colorado's defense allowed 176.4 rushing yards per game to opponents last season and over 450 yards of total offense. They'll need their defense front to improve and slow the run game of their opponents.

Bringing in transfers Chidozie Nwankwo, BJ Green and Samuel Okunlola on the defensive should allow for a massive improvement in that category.

#5 What will the run game look like without Dylan Edwards?

Deion Sanders' leading rusher from last season, Dylan Edwards, entered the transfer portal and will be on his way to Kansas State for the 2024 season. It will be interesting to hear Coach Prime's take on how he expects his backfield to look this season.

Colorado brought in Dallan Hayden from Ohio State, who has 663 yards and six touchdowns in 13 appearances for the Buckeyes. He will join Micah Welch, Charlie Offerdahl and Christian Sarem in what is a young and inexperienced backfield.
