Dillon Bell injury: What happened to Georgia WR?
Georgia wide receiver Dillon Bell suffered an injury during Saturday’s game against the No. 6 Tennessee Volunteers. It's quite a blow for coach Kirby Smart, whose team is tied 17-17 with the Vols, coached by Josh Heupel.
The Bulldogs’ offense relies heavily on Bell, who's known as a versatile “Swiss army knife” for Georgia. Bell left the field after an awkward fall near the end zone late in the second quarter.
Dillon Bell injury
Trainers escorted Dillon Bell to the medical tent before he was helped to the locker room just before halftime. The injury occurred when Bell took a handoff from quarterback Carson Beck, bringing Georgia to Tennessee’s 2-yard line. The WR tried his best to stay upright but eventually fell, clearly in pain.
At the time of his exit, he had logged three touches for 14 total yards. It also included two receptions for 12 yards and one carry for 2 yards. He led the team with seven targets in the first half.
“They were examining his high ankle and lower shin area. As he was limping off the sideline, he was very emotional. I’m told he is out for now as they do further evaluations. This is a big loss, they had a ton in the offense for him as a Swiss army knife. Not sure who can fill all those roles now that he is out,” ESPN’s Holly Rowe reported.
The No. 11 Georgia Bulldogs (7-2, 5-2, SEC) must adjust for the remaining quarters without Dillon Bell.
Smart had help from tight end Oscar Delp, who stepped up his game, recording 56 yards and two touchdowns in the first half.
Georgia Bulldogs depth chart before Tennessee game
The Bulldogs' roster was topped up before the week 12 clash in Tennessee. Smart's College Football Playoff hopes are on the line as he takes on Huepel and his men.
Carson Beck leads the charge at quarterback, supported by Gunner Stockton and backups Ryan Puglisi and Jaden Rashada. The running back room is thin, with Trevor Etienne and Robinsons sidelined. Nate Frazier, the leading rusher for the past two games, takes center stage, while Cash Jones, Chauncey Bowens and Dwight Phillips Jr. provide backup.
Wide receiver Dillon Bell, listed alongside Colbie Young, has seen action despite Young's indefinite suspension. Tight end Oscar Delp anchors a group that includes Ben Yurosek and Lawson Luckie, offering versatility to Georgia’s offense.
Defensively, Mykel Williams and Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins hold the line at the defensive end. The interior gains strength with Warren Brinson and Jordan Hall, who returned from injuries last week.
