Fisher Camac Transfer Portal: Forecasting portal landing spots
UNLV bested many opponents in an 11-3 season, but the Rebels now have to battle the transfer portal. Coach Barry Odom has left town for Purdue, and the Rebels are seeing increasing numbers of players hit the transfer portal. Defensive end Fisher Camac is one of the latest, and his potential loss is a big deal.
In 2024, Camac had 45 tackles and a whopping 14 tackles for loss, including 5.5 sacks. The 6-foot-7, 250 pound standout was lightly recruited out of high school, but in three seasons at UNLV, he has steadily improved.
Camac will have two years of portal elgibility left. Here are four possible portal homes for Camac.
Fisher Camac Transfer Portal: Four possible portal landing spots
#4 Oregon State
The Beavers somehow put together a 5-7 season in 2024 while finishing last in the FBS with just seven total sacks. Camac nearly had more sacks single-handedly last year than the entire Oregon State team.
Meanwhile, Oregon State is likely on an uptick with the revamped Pac-12 coming soon. The school represents a good chance for Camac to get a bit more exposure at a decent team.
#3 Arizona State
Camac hails from Arizona and missed being recruited by the in-state programs out of high school. But in a second try, both state schools would be wise to get themselves involved.
ASU has made the College Football Playoff, but with just 21 sacks, they could upgrade the pass rush. With two seasons of eligibility, Camac could be an intruging pick-up for coach Ken Dillingham.
Historically, proxymity to a school is a massive piece of the recruiting puzzle. It didn't matter much for Camac on his first recruiting turn. But this time, he's enough of a known quality to resettle at a bevy of schools. History says a local one is a decent possibility.
#2 Arizona
Arizona is not in as quite as good a position. The Wildcats went just 4-8, and new coach Brent Brennan struggled in season one.
Arizona allowed 31.8 points per game and had just 20 sacks. Adding Camac could be a big stop toward shoring up the defense. Meanwhile, if Camac's goals are heavier on playing time than potential team glory, Arizona could be a destination for sure.
#1 Purdue
One possibility for a new destination that shouldn't be overlooked is Purdue. UNLV coach Barry Odom took the Purdue job. Odom comes from a defensive background and doubtlessly recognizes the value that Camac could have for his new team.
Meanwhile, 1-11 Purdue could use pretty much all the help it can get. In an increasingly pass-heavy Big Ten, Camac would get an immediate opportunity to show his skills for NFL eyes.
Familiarity could be a significant part of Camac's move, and there's certainly one coach out there who knows exactly what Camac can bring to the table. Don't be surprised if Camac ends up at Purdue with Odom.
