"Girls are showing out" - When Coach Prime's ex-wife Pilar Sanders was left mesmerized with Shelomi Sanders & Co's epic play
Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sander's daughter Shelomi Sanders has been very supportive of her brothers, Shilo and Shedeur Sanders. The Sanders boys have driven their team to bowl eligibility, for the first time since 2016.
Shelomi, a basketball player, has been attending games in Boulder despite transferring from Colorado to join the Alabama A&M Bulldogs.
Before Shelomi left Colorado, her mother and Coach Prime's ex-wife Pilar Sanders used to attend her games to watch her play, despite her mostly being a bench option. During a game against Stanford in January, Pilar was present to support her daughter and the team.
Pilar reposted a clip on Instagram from the game, capturing the buzz of the arena as the Buffs scored a basket.
"You guys, so this house is absolutely packed," Pilar said. "This next play, doesn't go on the story, it's definitely a post. My girls are showing out. We're definitely gonna win this game against Stanford, for sure, oh my gosh! It is packed, the crowd is wild and this was a bomb play. All the girls are playing so good but check this one out."
Shelomi Sanders has Pilar in her corner over Coach Prime
The decision by Shelomi Sanders to enter the transfer portal from the Colorado Lady Buffs took everyone by surprise. Her father, the outspoken Deion Sanders, did not mince his words when giving his thoughts about his daughter's move on a "DVNR Buffs" podcast.
"(It) was stupid," Sanders said. "You don't enter the portal. You get a team before you enter the portal. You kinda get a team before you enter the portal. You know, that's what I would advise a child. And I know, 'Well it's illegal...' C'mon, man."
This stance by Coach Prime put him at odds with the ever-supportive Pilar Sanders who showed her support for Shelomi at every turn during her search for a program.
In a clip posted on her Instagram and YouTube channels, Pilar railed against Coach Prime's interview about their daughter, accusing him of being selfish and not supportive.
“When a child, a young adult, decides to step out on their own and even taking advice, not even in an arrogant way, not in a disrespectful way, but looking out for their own life, looking out for their own career, and doing what’s best to be done, the girl wants to play ball,” Pilar said. “How about supporting somebody else? We know you have your favorites. We all know that; we’ve all seen it throughout life.”
Shelomi Sanders and her father seem to have reconciled, evidenced by her re-entrance into his famous weekly children's rankings and her presence at Colorado Buffaloes games.
