"He's being hunted" - Quinn Ewers' shout out for John Wick ahead of the 2023 season fuels the passionate Texas fans
Quinn Ewers is coming of age and that became evident during the Big 12 Media Days. After a couple of underwhelming performances with the Texas Longhorns last season, the quarterback believes he is up for the challenge in the upcoming 2023 season.
The quarterback believes Texas is being targeted by its opponents and he is fully aware of the challenges that come with it. He likened this situation to the movie character 'John Wick', who is constantly chasing down villains, but at the same time, those very villains are also after him.
"I think there is always a target on our back, but there's also a target on the opponents we're playing. We put a target on them. It's kind of like John Wick. He's being hunted, but at the same time, he's hunting those guys as well."
Unlike the last few seasons, the atmosphere surrounding Texas as they approach the upcoming season feels noticeably different. Expectations are high on the team from all angles and there seems to be a consensus among analysts that Texas will come out dazzling in 2023.
The Longhorns are viewed as the frontrunners to win the Big 12 championship in what will be their last season in the conference. There are also high expectations among fans and college football analysts for them to contend for a spot in the CFB playoff.
This has further brought a sense of confidence among Longhorns fans as the new college football season approaches. The Texas fan base continued to get fueled with the belief that this is the team's year and Quinn Ewers will definitely play a key role.
Steve Sarkisian expresses confidence in Quinn Ewers
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian expressed his belief in the ability of Quinn Ewers during the Big 12 Media Days. He named him as the starting quarterback for the 2023 season a few months back and believes he is the type that is always ready to learn.
“I think two things. One, Quinn is really coachable and he’s always been very coachable since the day he got here. So, that’s helpful when you don’t get that resistance. I think, two, Quinn’s ultra competitive, like every great quarterback, and he wants to be the best player he can be.”
He continued:
“I think that his understanding of what we’re trying to do and why we’re doing what we’re doing has allowed him to play more urgent. And I do agree with you. I think that the details and the minutiae of the position is something that he sees value in now and he’s really putting in the time to make it all come together.”
Without a doubt, Sarkisian is hoping to achieve something big with the Texas Longhorns this season and Quinn Ewers will be key to that. The coach also has other quality options in the quarterback role, which include five-star recruit Arch Manning and redshirt sophomore Malik Murphy.
