Houston vs. TCU football history and records ahead of Week 6 CFB matchup
The Houston Cougars travel to Forth Worth in Week 6, for a clash with the TCU Horned Frogs as part of their Big 12 schedule. Both schools are having mediocre seasons, with Houston's being closer to a disaster with a 1-4 overall record and TCU's being a more manageable 3-2.
The game is set to be a Friday night affair, set to start at 7:30 p.m. ET.
Last week, Houston suffered its second straight shutout loss, this time against the Iowa State Cyclones 20-0. In Week 4 they fell to the Cincinnati Bearcats 34-0. During the game, the Cougars couldn't put together more than 243 yards while having three turnovers and allowing 393 yards from the Cyclones.
TCU for its part, beat Kansas 38-27 with quarterback Josh Hoover having another high yardage game with 356 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions. They also had 151 rushing yards, with Jeremy Payne running for 65 and Cam Cook for 61.
Houston vs. TCU series head-to-head
The Cougars and the Horned Frogs are currently tied in their head to head, with 13 wins each. However, that doesn't reflect the current state of affairs between the schools. TCU is on a nine-game winning streak going back thirty years, to 1993.
Despite the schools facing each other sporadically in the last 20 years, there's some history to this clash with the first encounter being in 1976. The game was played in Houston, Texas, and it was a 49-21 win for the Cougars.
The most recent game was in 2023, in the Cougars' first season in the Big 12, and it was a 36-13 win for TCU on the road. Before that, they hadn't played each other since 2007. The most recent Houston victory was in 1992 (George H.W. Bush was President, so a long time ago), when they won a thrilling 49-46 game at home.
The Horned Frogs streak seems bound to continue, with TCU being a heavy favorite to win this Week 6 game. ESPN bet has them as 16-point favorites.
