How many 5-star recruits does Alabama have for the 2024 season? Looking at Crimson Tide's new roster
If at one point Alabama football fans were worried about the future of their school's recruitment appeal following legendary coach Nick Saban's retirement, they shouldn't be. Ahead of the 2024 season, the Crimson Tide has added four five-star prospects to its roster.
The number signals a successful recruitment period by new coach Kalen DeBoer and his staff by basically keeping Tuscaloosa as an appealing destination for top high school players in the nation.
In an interview with 247 Sports earlier in August, DeBoer spoke about their recruitment game and building the nation's No. 2 ranked recruitment class:
"There was great urgency with all of that, just trying to really get locked in on who we wanted to have in our program," DeBoer said. "That starts with the evaluation, great communication amongst our staff, our plan with hopes of getting guys to campus a certain number of times and us being able to grow our relationship with these prospects and their parents."
Here's a look at the four five-star recruits joining Alabama for the 2024 season:
- Ryan Williams, WR
- Jaylen Mbakwe, CB
- Zabien Brown, CB
- Zavier Mincey, S
In the aftermath of Saban's retirement in January, the Crimson Tide only lost one five-star recruit. Quarterback Julian Sayin had already enrolled at Alabama, but subsequently moved to Ohio State in the transfer portal following Saban's announcement.
Kalen DeBoer's message following first day of preseason football camp: Stay healthy
Following the first day of scrimmage at Alabama's pre-season football camp, the Alabama head coach spoke with the media and gave a clear message to the media regarding his main objective at the moment (via AL.com):
"Staying relatively healthy, just your typical fall camp stuff,” DeBoer said after the first scrimmage. “Guys dinged up here and there, but nothing more than what you’d expect.
"Probably just staying healthy, you know? Again, I feel good about where we’re at. This will be our biggest scrimmage. This will be the most plays that we run. Next week we’ll have a scrimmage too, but it won’t be quite as many, it’ll be solid. But just being healthy. We need all the reps,” he added.
Alabama opens the 2024/25 season against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers on Aug. 31. The game will be played at Alabama's Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa. Their first SEC game is scheduled to take place on Sept. 28, against none other than the Georgia Bulldogs. Notably, the Crimson Tide is currently ranked No. 5 in the nation.
