Is Cam Rising playing today? Utah's quarterback's availability for Week 3
Injuries have long plagued Cam Rising's career, with the signal-caller missing the 2023 season due to one. There was much anticipation surrounding Utah's 2024 season, given that Rising was expected to be available again for Kyle Whittingham. In a game and a half, he has thrown for 346 yards and recorded seven touchdowns. However, in Week 2's victory over Baylor, the signal-caller injured his hand after hitting a cooler during a fall in the first half.
According to ESPN's Pete Thamel, he isn't expected to be available for Week 3's clash against the Utah State Aggies but should be fine for Week 4's game against Oklahoma State. According to Whittingham, he avoided any serious injury.
Cam Rising Injury Update
Pete Thamel gave a comprehensive update regarding Rising's injury in College Football Live this Friday. According to the ESPN analyst, the decision to use Cam Rising or not in the game would be touch and go and be made shortly before the game. In his place, backup Isaac Wilson, the younger brother of Denver Broncos quarterback Zach Wilson, would fill in the starting position.
He also stated that Cam Rising's injury should heal in two weeks and that he should be available for the Big 12 opener against Oklahoma State on September 21. Thamel doesn't expect Rising to play this week, out of caution from the coaching staff.
Isaac Wilson threw for only 30 yards during the 23-12 victory over Baylor. Despite playing for half a game, Rising was their top passer with 92 yards and two touchdown passes. The Utes were forced to depend on running back Micah Bernard for offensive power, with him recording 118 rushing yards although no touchdown.
