Is Cam Rising playing today? Utah Utes quarterback's availability for Week 8 explored
The Utah Utes have been playing well, but one of their most significant players on the roster, quarterback Cam Rising, has popped up on the injury report. He has battled through injuries in the past, having missed three games recently and the entire 2023 season.
Let's take a closer look at his availability for this Week 8 game against the TCU Horned Frogs and how things could look.
Is Cam Rising playing today?
Utah quarterback Cam Rising is not going to be playing today and will be sidelined for the remainder of the 2024 college football season with a lower leg injury. In his absence, backup quarterback Isaac Wilson will take the starting role.
What happened to Cam Rising?
Rising was injured during last Friday's 27-19 loss to the Arizona State Sun Devils. His leg bent at an awkward angle during the first drive of the game, but he managed to stay in the game and play through the injury. However, the injury clearly affected him as he had trouble with accuracy and moving around in the pocket.
This is not the first injury for Rising this season as he was also forced to miss three games due to an injury on his throwing hand.
Rising finished the season going 34-of-66 (51.5%) for 555 yards with seven passing touchdowns to three interceptions while also running eight times for 33 yards (4.1 yards per attempt).
When will Cam Rising return?
Rising will not return this season due to his lower leg injury. The Utah Utes released a statement from coach Kyle Whittingham when the injury diagnosis was first announced on Monday evening.
“Upon further evaluation by our medical staff, Cameron Rising’s injury has unfortunately been deemed season-ending. During his time at Utah, Cam has been both a great player and leader for our program, and he will obviously be missed," Whittingham said.
Due to the injury, Rising has been granted an additional year of eligibility, meaning it is possible for Rising to return to college football in the 2025 season.
