Is Jack Tuttle playing today? Michigan quarterback's availability for Week 3 explored

Jack Tuttle could be set to play in Week 3, following the disappointing performance of Davis Warren during last week's loss to Texas. There's been much speculation as to whether the Michigan Wolverines will switch quarterbacks, so let's have a look at what we know so far.

Jack Tuttle Injury Update

Jack Tuttle is a seven-year veteran, who had stints with the Utah Utes and the Indiana Hoosiers before transferring to Michigan in 2023. Some expected him to be the starter in 2024, or that at the very least he would compete with Davis Warren for the position during the fall camp.

However, he wasn't able to do so due to an injury he suffered the previous season. Tuttle tore the top part of his right elbow's UCL, which led to him missing spring practice. Despite participating in the fall camp, he wasn't able to compete for the starting spot due to the injury.

He was listed as questionable for last week's encounter against Texas, but coach Sherrone Moore gave an encouraging report regarding his potential availability for this week:

“Jack’s throwing more this week, and it looks like he will be ready to go."

This week's game against Arkansas State would be a good time to try a new quarterback. It would allow the coaching staff to make a final decision ahead of more difficult Big Ten games that are down the road. Despite no official confirmation from Michigan, there's a good chance Tuttle will see some action this week, potentially as the starter.

Despite having almost seven years of experience in college football already, Tuttle hasn't seen much action. Over six seasons, he has only played in 22 games and started in five. Throughout his college career, he has thrown for 1,031 yards, six touchdowns and six interceptions.

Much of his playtime came during his stint at Indiana, as he spent a single season at Utah and played no games as a redshirt freshman. He played six games for the Wolverines last year.

At 6-foot-4 and 211 pounds, many consider Jack Tuttle to be a more physically impressive player than Davis Warren. Also, despite not having had the chance to lead any program yet, Tuttle is a far more experienced player than any of the other quarterbacks on Michigan's roster.

No. 17 Michigan will face Arkansas State this Saturday at noon ET. The game will be available on BTN.
