Is Ryan Day still at Ohio State? Exploring latest coaching rumors around Buckeyes HC
There has been a lot of speculation regarding the job security of Ohio State Buckeyes coach Ryan Day. He is in the midst of his seventh year as the coach of the program and the overall record of 66-10 has been amazing. However, there is more than just that number.
Diving deeper into the numbers, Ryan Day is 2-4 in bowl games, 1-3 in the College Football Playoff, and a terrible 1-4 record against their biggest rivals, Michigan Wolverines, during "The Game."
On Wednesday, Day was asked if he believes he will remain at Ohio State next year and the Buckeyes coach said yes, later expanding on that thought.
"This is a wondrful place. I have one of the best jobs in America. I'm disappointed more than anybody. We'll continue to move and figure out what it is and overcome this obstacle." h/t The Athletic
He also took the blame for the loss at home to the Michigan Wolverines, which knocked the Buckeyes out of the Big Ten Championship Game.
Nick Saban sends a message to Ryan Day
While appearing on "The Pat McAfee Show" on Friday, legendary coach Nick Saban offered some advice to Ryan Day after his team getting upset at home to the Michigan Wolverines last week.
"Well, I think it's imperative to challenge them to respond. I mean, they obviously lost a tough game – no doubt about it – a game that means a lot to a lot of people. But I would say, look, guys, let's learn from the mistakes that we made in this game, alright, because we have a really good football team and we've got a chance to win a national championship here.
"So let's start doing the things we need to do on a consistent basis to be able to do that." h/t On3
As of this writing, Ryan Day has not responded to the criticism that he is facing. But now, the sixth-ranked Buckeyes await to see who their opponents will be in the CFP.
