"Is there a trophy for best backup QB?": CFB fans pumped after Arch Manning throws his first touchdown of his Texas career
Fans were eager to see Arch Manning after he redshirted last year but starting quarterback Quinn Ewers returned to the Texas Longhorns for another season. The season-opening game against Colorado State Rams on August 31 was one where coach Steve Sarkisian had mentioned his intention of getting Manning and the other backups into the game early.
Late in the third quarter, with the Texas Longhorns already leading 38-0 against the Rams, Manning took the field. He threw a pass to Silas Bolden on the sidelines for his first career touchdown at the collegiate level.
Fans took to social media, pumped about the result and thrilled to see Arch Manning get his first career touchdown pass.
"Wild to see his journey from junior high phenom to now!" one fan said.
"The Mannings breed QB's," another fan said.
Other people took the approach of loving the play call and design by the Texas Longhorns to get Arch Manning his first touchdown.
"That's a pretty sick play," one fan said.
"That looked like a random generated CFB AI opponent td play," another fan said.
This is the first of many touchdowns that Arch Manning will throw at the college level and it will be interesting to see if he is going to be on the field more than the typical backup quarterback this season.
Can Arch Manning be the Texas Longhorns' X-factor?
The Texas Longhorns are expected to be in contention for the SEC Championship in their first year in the conference. One thing that is going to be interesting is how Manning is used.
With the team expected to be dominant, it is important to have a quality backup. Quinn Ewers has suffered injuries that cost him multiple games in each of the previous two college football seasons and the drop-off from starting quarterbacks to backup quarterbacks are usually massive. However, with Manning, things are expected to be a bit different.
Do not be surprised to see Manning on the field more, potentially becoming the Longhorns' X-Factor.
