Kirby Smart gets hostile reception as he gears up for heavyweight clash against Alabama
The Georgia Bulldogs are entering hostile territory as they take on the Alabama Crimson Tide in a rematch of the SEC Championship Game from last season. Ahead of the game, the saying "once a member of the Crimson Tide, always a member of the Crimson Tide" did not apply to Georgia Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart.
While walking to the sideline ahead of the game, Smart was met with boos from the Alabama faithful.
Kirby Smart spent a little less than a decade with the Alabama Crimson Tide. First, he was an associate head coach in 2007, and then their defensive coordinator from 2008 to 2015 under former coach Nick Saban. After that, he would parlay the success into the coach of the Georgia Bulldogs.
Who will win the Georgia vs. Alabama game tonight?
The Georgia Bulldogs and the Alabama Crimson Tide game could determine which team will win the SEC and get one of the top four spots in the College Football Playoff. All factors considered, the Alabama Crimson Tide should be able to get the victory.
These teams are currently two of the top four ranked programs in college football and it is difficult to argue with that. The Crimson Tide have been dominant throughout the years over the Bulldogs, and Kalen DeBoer is 107-12 in his 10-year coaching career.
Jalen Milroe has been playing at a Heisman Trophy level this season and played well in the SEC Championship Game, going 13-of-23 for 192 yards and a pair of touchdown passes. Carson Beck looked completely overwhelmed in the Bulldogs' most recent game and each team had Week 4 of the year off so there is no rest advantage.
Kirby Smart does not have much to go off of in terms of how coach DeBoer is going to be having his team play. However, the Bulldogs were almost on the wrong end of an upset in their first conference game of the season two weeks ago so things will be interesting going forward. The Alabama Crimson Tide has been seen as the betting underdog but they should secure the win.
