Luke Kromenhoek Transfer Portal: Top 5 landing spots for Florida State QB ft. Penn State
Luke Kromenhoek is entering the transfer portal from Florida State. Yes, a player who was linked to his college for about the length of a typical college career is breaking that connection after just one semester. A four-star recruit from Georgia, Kromenhoek was at Florida State camps back in 2021.
He finally enrolled with the Seminoles in the Spring of 2024. Kromenhoek played in the last six games of FSU's morbid 2-10 season. He ended up 44 for 84 passing for 502 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. All three touchdowns came against FCS Charleston Southern.
Still, Kromenhoek was seemingly the future of Florida State football. Now, he's heading on. While no real favorites have emerged in his re-recruitment, here's a closer look at five possible landing spots for the promising young passer.
Luke Kromenhoek Transfer Portal: 5 landing spots
#5. Ole Miss
Lane Kiffin is something of the QB whisperer at the moment. Jaxson Dart's time is finishing up and with Walker Howard transferring out, some QB competition might be needed in Oxford. Yes, highly regarded Austin Simmons is still around, but the Rebels didn't get where they are by fearing competition, particularly at key positions.
Kromenhoek's relatively disastrous season at FSU should convince him that a more QB-savvy staff would be a smart move. That's certainly the image that Kiffin fulfills.
#4. Georgia Tech
For a guy from Georgia, the chance to finish Tech's rebuild could be intriguing. Haynes King has been rumored as considering the portal. If those rumors indeed have some substance, then Kromenhoek could become his replacement. That said, if King is around, then Tech is set, so keep an eye on the QB1 picture to see if Kromenhoek could be the next QB1.
#3. Oklahoma
Few teams need QB help quite like the Sooners. Jackson Arnold has already headed into the portal. Even with him, the Sooners were 16th in the SEC in passing yardage and 15th in passing efficiency a year ago. Head coach Brent Venables needs a good 2025 campaign to keep his job.
But Oklahoma has talent and resources aplenty. The Sooners simply need the right triggerman to lead the offense. Mediocre 2024 performance aside, Kromenhoek has the accuracy, arm strength and mental acuity to lead an SEC program. Oklahoma might just give him that opportunity.
#2. South Carolina
Like the Georgia Tech move above, this is a conditional pick. There have been rumors that Gamecocks passer LaNorris Sellers could enter the portal. If those rumors are unfounded, then South Carolina isn't in the QB market. But if Sellers follows up on an impressive freshman season by heading off, Kromenhoek could be his replacement.
Carolina has proven itself to be a top-flight program. While Sellers is more mobile than Kromenhoek, the Carolina attention to rushing could open up the play-action passing attack for Kromenhoek. Again, everything waits on Sellers, but if he's on the move, his replacement might not be hard to find.
#1. Penn State
The only other school that had any degree of involvement with Kromenhoek's recruitment outside of Florida State was Penn State. Kroemenhoek did take an unofficial visit to Happy Valley. PSU QB Drew Allar is a junior, but he may opt for the NFL draft.
Kromenhoek would be a logical successor for Allar. The two are fairly similar QBs – low on mistakes (perhaps not the most glamorous) but efficient offensive leaders. So if Kromenhoek does make a big move, ending up with James Franklin at Penn State is highly possible.
