The Buckeyes have started the season with two big wins defeating Akron 52-6 and Western Michigan 56-0. As Ohio State (2-0) remains undefeated and on top of their game, the Thundering Herd (1-1) will enter week four after suffering a crushing 31-14 defeat against Virginia Tech.

Their first meeting was on September 11, 2004, when the Buckeyes defeated Marshall 24-21. The second meeting took place on September 2, 2010, and the Buckeyes dominated Marshall in a 45-7 victory.


Notable records in the Marshall vs. Ohio State Football Series

In the first Marshall vs. Ohio State game, the Buckeyes held a 21-14 lead at halftime. Neither team scored in the third quarter, and Marshall tied the game at 21-21 in the fourth.

However, with just two seconds left, kicker Mike Nugent saved the Buckeyes and scored a 54-yard field goal, securing a 24-21 win. That kick remains one of the most iconic moments in OSU history, helping Nugent earn his second All-American season and the Lou Groza Award.

Nugent went on to play in the NFL after he signed with the New York Giants in 2005. Over 16 seasons, he played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Arizona Cardinals, Cincinnati Bengals, Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, Oakland Raiders and New England Patriots.
