Miami Hurricanes Transfer Portal: Top 5 potential recruits Miami should look out for
Even the 10-2 Miami Hurricanes have to watch the transfer portal. Off a season that seemingly cemented Mario Cristobal's status with the program, Miami still has needs. The Hurricanes, still preparing for the Pop-Tarts Bowl on Dec. 28, have only had a handful of transfer portal exits. Still, a few more Hurricanes players will likely go in the aftermath of the bowl.
And even a 10-2 team that missed the College Football Playoff by a tough loss and a bit of bad luck still has needs. Miami has been proactive, grabbing wide receiver CJ Daniels from LSU. However, the Hurricanes can't rest on their 2024 laurels. Here are five more available portal entrants who Miami would do well to add in 2025.
Miami Transfer Portal: 5 players the Hurricanes should nab
5. Blake Glessner, UCLA
Miami lost a freshman kicker from its roster. While specialists haven't been active in the portal, Glessner is one available player. He has experience in both kickoffs and place-kicking. He's a one-year guy but would help solidify the position long enough to recruit another long-term solution.
4. Fa'alili Fa'amoe, Washington State
An athletic lineman, Fa'amoe came to Washington State and was projected to play the defensive line. Instead, he became a two-year starter at tackle. Antonio Tripp has entered the portal for Miami, so adding a replacement player at tackle would be a significant help. Fa'amoe could compete for playing time at essentially any school in the nation.
3. Charles Brantley, Michigan State
The secondary has suffered a couple of transfer portal defections and Miami is active in recruiting the position. Brantley could be a useful veteran. A four-year player at Michigan State, he had a nice 2024 season. He had 27 tackles and broke up 10 passes, including three interceptions with one going for a pick-six. He's a one-year guy but is worth consideration.
2. Tacario Davis, Arizona
A lockdown corner, the 6-foot-4 Davis is one of the best players on the entire transfer portal board. In the last two seasons at Arizona, he's broken up 23 passes. His numbers were better in 2023 than 2024 but offenses have often stopped bothering to throw at him. Davis is another short-term prospect, but he would take a position with question marks and make it a strength.
1.Fernando Mendoza, California
With the transfer of Reese Poffenbarger and the upcoming NFL entry of Cam Ward, Miami needs quarterback help. Mendoza has an excellent skill set and could be the man to take the QB1 role. He passed for 3,004 yards and 16 touchdowns as a sophomore at Cal. He has two seasons left, and while he's not quite as mobile as Ward, he would be a solid QB option for the Hurricanes.
