Miami starting QB projections 2024: Who will be Mario Cristobal's QB1?
The Miami Hurricanes had a decent 2023 and will be poised to enjoy an even better season in 2024. They'll have a new starter at quarterback due to Tyler Van Dyke departing the program.
Starting the right QB1 is crucial for Miami's success. Let's look at the Hurricanes' starting quarterback projections for the upcoming season.
Who will be Miami coach Mario Cristobal's QB1 in 2024?
Cam Ward
Cam Ward joins the Miami Hurricanes after a decent two-year spell at Washington State University. He started 25 games at Washington State, amassing a stat line of 6,963 passing yards, 48 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. He also added 13 rushing touchdowns for good measure.
He'll be the likely starter, as his dual-threat ability makes him unique to the Miami quarterback room.
Ward earned numerous honors in his last year at WSU, including the FCS All-America second team and the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Year award.
Ward was a standout at Columbia High and earned first-team all-district honors, honorable mention all-state football, and All-Southern Brazoria County first-team quarterback honors.
Emory Williams
Emory Williams started two games in 2023 and will likely be Miami's backup quarterback in the upcoming season. Williams racked up a stat line of 470 passing yards, three touchdowns and one pick in five games in 2023.
Williams joined the Hurricanes after an impressive high school career at Milton. He turned down Auburn, California, Florida State, Pitt and Wisconsin to commit to Miami. He was ranked as the 14th-best pocket-passing quarterback in the nation at the high school level.
Reese Poffenbarger
Reese Poffenbarger is another transfer quarterback looking to make a name for himself in Mario Cristobal's offense. Poffenbarger spent his last two seasons at Albany, where he amassed a stat line of 5,969 yards, 56 touchdowns and 16 interceptions.
Poffenbarger will likely be given the chance to compete for the starting job in Miami due to his years of experience as a starter in a collegiate program.
Other quarterbacks on the Miami roster are Judd Anderson, Aristides Angelo Jr., Joe Borchers and Riply Luna.
