Nebraska Transfer Portal: Top 5 recruits who have signed with the Cornhuskers

The Nebraska Cornhuskers have jumped into the transfer portal full steam. They have already gotten six players to join the program and are still looking to add more talent.

Nebraska (6-6, 3-6 in the Big Ten) won five of its first six games of the season. However, it fell apart during the second half, winning just one of its final six games.

There has been speculation of quarterback Dylan Raiola transferring out of Lincoln, but the Huskers answered by bringing in talented players on both sides of the ball. With more depth at key positions, coach Matt Rhule will hope the team can make strides and compete in the Big Ten.

Nebraska will face the Boston College Eagles in the Pinstripe Bowl on Dec. 28.

Before that, here's a closer look at the top players who have already signed with Nebraska via the transfer portal.

Top 5 transfers who have signed with Nebraska Cornhuskers via transfer portal

#5. Jack McCallister, Punter

The former Washington punter could be an underrated addition for Nebraska. McCallister is coming off his best season, averaging 44 yards in 36 punts, with a long of 62 yards.

McCallister has improved his punting average each season. In 2022, he averaged 40.8 yards, while he finished with a 41.5 average a year later. He will compete with freshman Kandyn Koch for the starting position.

#4. Jaylen George, Defensive Lineman

After spending three seasons at East Tennessee State, Jaylen George is jumping to the FBS level in Nebraska. He started 23 games in his last two years with the Buccaneers.

In 2024 he finished with 33 tackles, six for a loss and a half sack. He was named to the All-SoCon team after the season and will now try to help shore up the middle of the Huskers' defense.

#3. Gabe Moore, Defensive Lineman

Moore gives the Cornhuskers more depth along the defensive line. He still has four years of eligibility, so he could contribute for a long time. The Louisville, Mississippi native didn’t play in his two years at Mississippi State.

After redshirting in 2023, he suffered an injury this year, so his first snap with the Huskers will also be his first at the collegiate level.

#2. Williams Nwaneri, Edge

One of the Cornhuskers’ biggest needs is someone who can rush the passer and Nwaneri could answer the call. The former Missouri Tiger has lots of potential, but he didn’t get on the field at Missouri. He finished freshman year with two tackles and a sack.

He will now look to add the pass-rushing help the Huskers need after team sack leaders, Ty Robinson and Nash Hutmacher, are both seniors. Playing in the Big Ten, putting pressure on the opposing quarterback is paramount.

#1. Nyziah Hunter, Wide Receiver

The former Cal Golden Bear was a coveted receiver in the transfer portal. Hunter is coming off a 40-catch, 578-yard season for California. He also added five touchdowns.

Hunter is the deep threat Raiola needs to stretch opposing defenses, with a 14.4-yard average per catch. Maybe the Cornhuskers look to add another receiver, but even if they don’t, the Salinas, California freshman makes the passing attack more dangerous.
