"250 lbs baby man": When Deion Sanders made Cam Newton blush like a baby

Deion Sanders has managed to take the college football world by storm in just five seasons coaching at the collegiate level, the first three of which came at the FCS level. Before launching his coaching career, the Pro and College Football Hall of Famer worked as an NFL analyst, most notably with NFL Network.

Coach Prime had the opportunity to interview Cam Newton ahead of the 2011 NFL Draft, where the star quarterback was selected first overall. Speaking with the then-reigning Heisman Trophy winner and national champion, Sanders stated:

"Heisman Trophy, national championship, could be the first pick of the draft - look at you smiling, man. I mean, which one has the most weight? Heisman, national championship, could be the first pick of the draft - you blushing like a baby. A big old 250 pound baby, man, you sitting up here blushing."

Newton responded:

"The one that has the most weight, individually, it is the Heisman. I'll be sitting up here lying to you."

Newton went on to have a largely successful NFL career after being selected first overall by the Carolina Panthers. He won the 2015 NFL MVP and led the team to an appearance in Super Bowl 50.

The former Heisman Trophy winner retired with 32,382 passing yards, 194 touchdowns and 123 interceptions. He completed 59.9% of his pass attempts while adding 5,628 rushing yards and 75 touchdowns on 1,118 carries.

Stephen A. Smith believes the Ohio State Buckeyes should target Deion Sanders

Deion Sanders proved his naysayers wrong in 2024 as he led the Colorado Buffaloes to a 9-3 regular-season record, including a 7-2 mark in Big 12 play. Stephen A. Smith believes Coach Prime should be a target of the Ohio State Buckeyes. Speaking on ESPN's First Take, the sports media personality said:

"I understand that $37 million is a lot of money when it comes to Ryan Day. If you can get your hands on Deion Sanders to bring him to the Ohio State, you pay the $37 million. They'll pay the driver $37 million to ride him out of town. I just had somebody text me and say that, OK? That's how much money they got in Columbus. That ain't a lot of money to overcome. You can come up with the money to do that."

Many expected Sanders to leave the Buffaloes following the looming departure of his sons — Shedeur Sanders and Shilo Sanders — and Travis Hunter. However, it appears that he will be back in Colorado for at least one more season.
