3 ways Florida State Seminoles can turn things around in Week 4 after disappointing losses

The Florida State Seminoles have been arguably the biggest disappointment in college football – by a wide margin – in the early portion of the 2024 season. After entering the season ranked 10th in the preseason AP Top 25 Poll, they dropped their first three games. The Seminoles opened up with a 24-21 loss to the conference rival Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Dublin, Ireland in Week 0.

They returned home the following week falling to another conference foe, the Boston College Eagles, by a score of 28-13. After a bye in Week 2, things continued to spiral this past weekend as they suffered a 20-12 home loss to the Memphis Tigers.

Florida State still has three matchups with ranked opponents on their schedule and will need to turn things around immediately, if they hope to salvage the season.

Here's a closer look at three things they can do against the California Golden Bears (3-0) in Week 4 to finally get in the win column.

3 ways Florida State Seminoles can turn things around in Week 4

#1. Figure out how to get DJ Uiagalelei going

There were high expectations when DJ Uiagalelei joined the Florida State Seminoles via the transfer portal this offseason. The five-star prospect in the 2020 recruiting class has been awful through three games so far. He has thrown for 666 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions while completing 56.6% of his passes.

Florida State ranks No. 124 out of 134 qualified teams in scoring offense and No. 128 in yards per game. They will need to get the fifth-year senior going if they have any hope of turning things around.

#2. Give Lawrance Toafili the majority of the running back touches

Lawrance Toafili has been, by far, the best member of the Seminoles' running back room. That isn't saying much, however, as he has just 67 rushing yards and one touchdown on 13 carries, as well as 44 receiving yards on seven receptions. The rest of the roster has averaged just 1.5 yards per carry, meaning Toafili should command a bigger share of the touches on Saturday.

#3. Win the turnover battle

The Florida State Seminoles have played in three relatively close games so far this season. They have hurt themselves with turnovers, however, as they have turned the ball over four times compared to just one forced turnover by their defense. Florida State will need to do a better job protecting the ball and forcing turnovers if they want to avoid falling to 0-4.
