$31.7 million Big 12 media deal payout for Colorado after joining Brett Yormark's powerhouse as an aftermath of conference realignmentÂ
The conference realignment that happened last season is going into effect this college football campaign and one of the major moves saw Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark get the Colorado Buffaloes to return to the conference. The university left after the 2010 season to join the Pac-12 but a little more than a decade later has decided to return to the Big 12 via conference realignment.
It has been reported by CBS Sports that the Big 12 media deal is going to be paying the Colorado Buffaloes $31.7 million per season to join the conference, giving them the same share as every other team in the Big 12. That amount is going to be similar through 2031 as the media rights deals with FOX and ESPN expire.
This is going to be an interesting move and the Colorado Buffaloes have a lot of attention on them in Year 2 of the Deion Sanders era. The question remains of how they will look in the Big 12 Conference this season.
Other schools that Brett Yormark could target in conference realignment
It is unclear if Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark wants to continue expanding the conference or if he is content with the eight new teams from the last two seasons. If the conference realignment were to continue and they decide to add some more schools, there are a few that could be targeted.
One such are the Clemson Tigers as they are potentially going to be available. With the potential naming rights of the conference being sold, they have a similar size of revenue per year as the SEC and Big Ten Conferences. Adding the Tigers would be a major boost for the conference as a whole.
Another school could be the Duke Blue Devils. The Big 12 Conference has targeted schools that are good in multiple sports and that is what the Blue Devils do with college basketball and football. With the ability to give the Blue Devils a conference on a higher level than the ACC, the Big 12 conference realignment could be the best thing for the school going forward.
