5 overrated teams in Week 4 of college football season ft. Michigan

The 2024 college football season is in full swing as the calendar turns to Week 4. Multiple shocking upsets in the early stages of the season have led to a shakeup in the AP Top 25 Poll rankings. While there is still plenty of football to be played, there have been several teams that have failed to live up to their preseason hype.

Although some of those teams can rebound, several have looked the part of being overrated. Here's a closer look at five teams that are perhaps overrated entering Week 4 of the college football season.

5 overrated teams in Week 4 of college football season

#1. Michigan Wolverines

The Michigan Wolverines entered the season as the defending national champions and ranked No. 9 in the preseason AP Top 25 Poll. The Wolverines have hardly looked like a postseason contender through three games and have slipped to No. 18 in the rankings.

They are just 2-1 and looked completely outmatched against the Texas Longhorns in Week 2. They have four ranked opponents remaining on their schedule, including No. 11 USC Trojans this weekend.

#2. LSU Tigers

The LSU Tigers entered the season ranked No. 13 in the preseason AP Top 25 Poll. While they sit at 2-1, they could very well be 1-2, if not for a controversial call in last weekend's 36-33 victory over the South Carolina Gamecocks. The Tigers are now ranked No. 16 and also have four ranked opponents on their schedule.

#3. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish were ranked seventh in the preseason AP Top 25 Poll. Their Week 2 loss to the Northern Illinois Huskies was, arguably, the biggest upset in the early portion of the season. While they are 2-1 and ranked No. 17 in the nation, the Fighting Irish have not lived up to their preseason hype.

#4. Florida State Seminoles

The Florida State Seminoles are, arguably, the biggest disappointment of the 2024 season, thus far. After entering the year ranked tenth in the preseason AP Top 25 Poll, they are 0-3 and could already be out of contention altogether.

#5. Kansas Jayhawks

The Kansas Jayhawks entered the season ranked No. 22 in the AP Top 25 Poll, however, they are just 1-2 to begin the season. Their only win of the season came against an FCS program. Things will not get much easier with the Big 12 play set to begin this week.
