$600,000 worth fines levied by SEC as LSU and Ole Miss face punishment for spectators' actions
The SEC handed out fines worth more than half a million dollars on Monday in response to two home crowds on the opposing ends of ranked Week 11 matchups.
The LSU Tigers, who suffered an embarassing 42-13 loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide at Tiger Stadium, received a $250,000 fine for fans throwing things on the field. Meanwhile, the Ole Miss Rebels, who beat the Georgia Bulldogs in a 28-10 upset at Vaught–Hemingway Stadium at Hollingsworth Field received a $350,000 fine for their fans storming the field.
Barrett Sallee of College Sports on SiriusXM shared news of the fines, tweeting:
"LSU has been fined $250,000 by the SEC for fans throwing debris on the field. The fine will be paid to the SEC’s post-graduate scholarship program per conference rules."
He added details of Ole Miss' fine as well, tweeting:
"Ole Miss has been fined $350,000 by the SEC - $250,000 for fans rushing the field after the win over Georgia - $100,000 for fans rushing the field before the end of the game Fines will be paid to Georgia"

The rules, which were put in place ahead of the 2023 season to limit potential contact between fans and athletes, call for a $100,000 fine after the first offense.
The second offense is $250,000, while the third offense is $500,000. Ole Miss received two offenses as their fans took the field before time expired and once again when the game ended.

The College Football Playoff is set to expand to 12 teams for the first time in 2024. The five highest-ranked conference champions and the next seven highest-ranked programs will make up the postseason field.
While the winner of the SEC Championship Game will earn one of the 12 spots, there are several other programs from the conference who are in position to reach the playoffs.
While the College Football Playoff rankings haven't been updated, there are five SEC programs among the top 12 in the latest rendition of the AP Top 25 Poll. Additionally, five teams from the conference are among the 12 teams with the best odds to reach the postseason.
The Texas Longhorns, Georgia Bulldogs, Alabama Crimson Tide, Ole Miss Rebels and the Tennessee Volunteers are all in position to reach the postseason, while the Texas A&M Aggies remain within striking distance.
