99 Y/O Colorado superfan & Deion Sanders admirer survives COVID, latest health updates out
Deion Sanders led the Colorado Buffaloes to be Bowl-eligible for the first time since the 2020 season. After the Buffs' victory over Cincinnati in week 9, Coach Prime also fulfilled his promise to 99-year-old superfan Peggy, that the program would make it to the Bowl games.
Unfortunately, Peggy was not at Folsom Field to witness Deion Sanders' team beat Cincinnati for Bowl-game eligibility. According to a tweet by Laura Levy, the Colorado superfan was hit with COVID-19. As per the tweet, Peggy is still recovering, so she was absent from the week 9 showdown at Folsom Field.
Levy also praised Peggy for battling hip surgery and COVID at her age and urged Deion Sanders to gift her a Buffs jersey with a 'D' on the back.
"To clarify some news...Peggy had Covid 3 weeks ago. She has recovered fully but still gets tired. So a late game is too hard for her. But she is doing much better. She was attending the Buffs Belles luncheons again last weds."
"To recover from a big fall/hip surgery and then Covid at nearly 100 years old is a testament to how strong Peggy is. Hey @DeionSanders, Peggy needs a 'D' on her jersey! Dawg... Total badass!" Levy wrote in the tweet
Miss Peggy has been a fan of the Colorado Buffaloes since the 1940s. She and her sister, who passed away in 2020, went on to become season-ticket holders starting from the 1966 season. The 99-year-old has always maintained her utmost loyalty towards the program and also created a special bond with Coach Prime.
Deion Sanders and Peggy share heartwarming moment on call after Colorado's week 9 victory over Cincinnati
After the Buffs secured their qualification for the Bowl games, Deion Sanders made sure to reach out to Miss Peggy in the locker room. The 99-year-old superfan thanked Coach Prime for keeping his promise to her.
"I'm so happy thank you so much for the turnaround you have done for us. Thank you for that," Peggy said while breaking down on the call.
Sanders and the players also showed their love and gratitude to Peggy and her unwavering support for the program.
"We love you, we appreciate you, and we wanna thank you and we congratulate you for being able to go to the bowl game," Sanders said
The Buffs are currently on a two-game winning streak and will take on Texas Tech next. If they can maintain this momentum, then they could be a potential contender for the new 12-team playoffs this season.
