Alabama football player car accident: What happened to Terrance Howard? Latest updates around the incident

Terrance Howard suffered twin car accidents in the space of a few minutes last week which led to his tragic death. According to his family, as reported by KPRC TV in Houston, these accidents happened when he was moving his belongings from Alabama to North Carolina. This was following his transfer from the Crimson Tide to the North Carolina Central Eagles.

The first of them was a minor car crash on the I-85 near Salisbury, North Carolina, amid a storm. When he stepped out of the car to check on those in the other vehicle, another vehicle struck him as soon as he turned around.

The twin incidents saw Howard suffer life-threatening injuries, which included major brain trauma, and that put him on a ventilator. He succumbed to those injuries on August 1.

However, his family was notified of his passing a few days later since Howard was not carrying any form of identification when the accidents happened.

His family also confirmed that his body was being transported back to Houston yesterday and an independent autopsy would be performed.

"Before I make comments on the team, I do want to send along thoughts and prayers. Terrance Howard, who was with us and transferred on to North Carolina Central, he did pass away and he’s got some guys who are here on this team close to him and also think about him. Just want to send prayers and thoughts up to his family."

Howard was a football player and track athlete for the Crimson Tide. While he did not play a single game in his freshman season for the football team, he traveled with them to the Rose Bowl College Football Playoff semifinal.

The Crimson Tide also won the SEC East title with a flawless 8-0 record. He entered the transfer portal to get a fresh start, signing for the Eagles.

The defensive back's tragic accident left his family distraught. They started a GoFundMe, which is extremely close to achieving its goal of $50,000 as they have raised over $45,000 so far.
