Alabama QB Jalen Milroe comes clean on staying put in Tuscaloosa after Nick Saban's departure: "We have to do what's best for us"

In a world where college athletes often transfer at the drop of a hat, Alabama QB Jalen Milroe stands out for his sheer commitment to the Alabama Crimson Tide. Even before Nick Saban announced his retirement, Milroe decided to spend his senior year playing for Alabama, driven by both academic and branding reasons.

"When it comes to branding as a program, there are only two other brands I can say are as great a caliber as Alabama, and it's the Cowboys and the Yankees," Milroe told 247Sports.

Milroe's loyalty to Alabama isn't just about football. He is also pursuing a master's degree, having completed his undergraduate degree in three years. Addressing the coaching change, Milroe added:

"That was definitely a hard moment in everyone's eyes with the transition of him retiring. He has to do what's best for him, and that's exactly what he did. So I support him 100%. Now as players, we have to do what's best for us."

Milroe's decisiveness and dedication make him a leader for the Crimson Tide as they start a new era without Nick Saban.

Kalen DeBoer lauds Jalen Milroe's attitude

Alabama football fans have a lot to be excited about with new head coach Kalen DeBoer, especially when it comes to his high praise for starting quarterback Jalen Milroe. Nick Saban initially put his faith in Milroe to lead the Crimson Tide on the field after the departure of Bryce Young.

In an appearance on “Always College Football” with former Alabama QB Greg McElroy, DeBoer commended Milroe's development and dedication.

"So Jalen, with what he did at the end of the season, I think is what's really impressive," DeBoer said.
"And, you know, building on that, even though yes, new system, new verbiage and things like that, building on that experience I think and him now learning from it and knowing, you know the areas where he just needs to continue to improve, he's been amazing in that way," he added further.

The Alabama athlete spent his first two seasons as Bryce Young's backup and won the starting QB job last season competing alongside Ty Simpson and Tyler Buchner. In his first season under Nick Saban as QB1, the 21-year-old Texas native recorded 2,834 passing yards and 23 passing TDs.
