Arizona State vs. Kansas State: Box score, stats, and summary feat. Sam Leavitt (Week 12)
On Saturday night, the Arizona State Sun Devils took down the 16th-ranked Kansas State Wildcats 24-14. Quarterback Sam Leavitt and wide receiver Jordyn Tyson each had a solid game as they were able to take advantage of the Wildcats defense. Kansas State could not get much of anything going on in terms of offense until it was too late.
Arizona State (8-2, 5-2 Big 12) are now third in the Big 12 Conference standings and sit one game back of the Colorado Buffaloes for a berth in the championship game.
The Wildcats (7-3, 4-3) essentially knocked themselves out of contending for the Big 12 Championship Game and the College Football Playoff. With this loss, it is difficult to picture them being selected with three losses and no conference championship game berth.
Let’s take a closer look at the box score to see how this game wound up..

Arizona State vs. Kansas State Game Summary
The Arizona State Sun Devils were able to dominate on the offensive side of the game as they had 23 first downs as the team went 9-of-15 on third downs. The offense was able to control the time of possession as they had the ball for 36:36 and a big reason why was the ability to throw the ball effectively.
Sam Leavitt went 21-of-34 passing to continue having the clock roll down. A majority of this came during the first half and cruised to the victory.
The Kansas State Wildcats were 7-of-13 on third downs and 1-of-3 on fourth down tries. Avery Johnson struggled as he was 24-of-40 with a pair of interceptions, so the passing game could not get much going. However, the running game was outstanding as Kansas State averaged 6.2 yards per carry behind DJ Giddens. The big issue was three turnovers costing the program the ability to put points on the board.
