Ashton Jeanty enters the running for another coveted award as Heisman bid struggles to move ahead

No. 13 Boise State Broncos running back Ashton Jeanty is having a breakout year this season and is among the candidates vying to win the Heisman Trophy. Although the odds are not in his favor to win the Heisman, he could be in line to earn other awards.

On Wednesday, "On SI" shared Jeanty is a semifinalist for the Walter Camp Award. The publication also reported on Nov. 12 he was one of the 16 players considered a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award.

The Boise State running back has earned recognition as one of the best in the league, leading his position in rushing yards and touchdowns. Jeanty enters Week 12 with 224 carries for 1,734 yards and 23 touchdowns. In Week 11, Jeanty had another impressive game for the season in Boise State's (8-1, 5-0 Mountain West Conference) 28-21 win over the Nevada Wolf Pack (3-8, 0-5) Nov. 9. He ended last Saturday's matchup with 34 carries for 209 yards and three touchdowns.

Although Jeanty is having a great year, he is competing against other star players for the Heisman Trophy.

Betting odds favor Travis Hunter to win the Heisman Trophy over Jeanty after Week 11

"VsiN's" podcaster Tim Murray shared a Google Spreadsheet on Nov. 11 via X of Heisman Trophy odds after Week 11. Colorado Buffaloes wide receiver and cornerback Travis Hunter was the betting favorite to win the award from DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, and Circa. So far, he's achieved 69 receptions for 856 yards and nine touchdowns. Hunter has been solid defensively as well, with 20 tackles, one forced fumble, and two interceptions.

The spreadsheet showed Jeanty is third in odds to win the Heisman Trophy across the four betting platforms. The document notes the running back has fallen in the odds race to win the award since Week 9. Hunter is among the semifinalists for the Walter Camp Award and the Maxwell Award, so he could also be favored over Jeanty to win both. However, the Boise State star player still has time to make up some ground.

Boise State's schedule for 2024 season

The Broncos have three games left in the regular season. Jeanty will have the opportunity to prove that he is the best player in the country to win the Heisman Trophy and other awards, though it's unclear if he can make up the distance between him and other contenders.

Here are the remaining games on their schedule:

  • Nov 16: @ San Jose State Spartans
  • Nov 23: @ Wyoming
  • Nov 29: vs. Oregon State
