Ashton Jeanty issues classy message to Devin Turner after decision to enter the transfer portal

Boise State star running back Ashton Jeanty was all respect when responding to Northwestern Wildcats defensive back Devin Turner’s decision to enter the transfer portal. Turner, who has been a commanding presence for the Wildcats with 51 tackles and three interceptions this season, announced his departure from the program with a heartfelt message on Instagram, thanking his coaches for their mentorship.

"I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Coach Fitz and Coach Braun for their leadership and mentorship during my time at Northwestern. The lessons I've learned from them have shaped me not only as a player but also as a person...," Turner wrote.

Jeanty, a Heisman finalist, shared Turner’s announcement on his own Instagram story, adding a supportive caption.

"Big things ahead🫡."

Northwestern, meanwhile, will face challenges as the transfer portal reshapes rosters. It will be tough for coach David Braun, who’ll lose Turner and some other key players. However, the Wildcats do have 20 new signings on National Signing Day.

Ashton Jeanty finds Heisman backing from CFB analyst

Jeanty appeared to be the Heisman favorite since his first game for Boise State this season but Colorado’s Travis Hunter now has a stranglehold on the award. Jeanty deserves credit for nearly breaking Barry Sanders' record, logging 2,288 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns.

On The “Coach JB Show,” analyst Jason Brown passionately backed Jeanty, calling out the lack of respect for his contributions.

“Yet we don't talk about Ashton Jeanty. Damn near beating the No. 1 team in America. Carrying this team on his back and in the college playoff. Like that don't carry no weight to you."

Jeanty’s efforts have put Boise State on the national radar. However, the odds are stacked against the 21-year-old. Hunter is the odds-on favorite to win the Heisman at -6000 at FanDuel thanks to his dominance on both sides of the ball. Jeanty holds the second spot with +1500, but most analysts believe Hunter’s dual-role prowess seals the deal.
