Ashton Jeanty NFL Draft rumors: 2 teams in contention for Heisman frontrunner after huge college success
No. 13 Boise State secured their seventh consecutive win, bringing them to an impressive 8-1 record with only three games left in the season. This hot streak has helped their star running back, Ashton Jeanty, climb to third place in the Heisman Trophy race, right behind Colorado’s WR Travis Hunter and Oregon’s QB Dillon Gabriel.
Set to enter the 2025 NFL Draft as a top prospect, Jeanty’s talent has already caught the eye of several NFL teams. The Kansas City Chiefs and Chicago Bears were among his favorites, but he hinted at another team he wouldn’t mind joining, the Arizona Cardinals.
Ashton Jeanty had a fun reason for it. During a TikTok livestream, he quipped:
“I could get down with Kyler. We’re gonna be the shortest backfield in the NFL.”
Standing at 5’9”, Jeanty is quick on his feet. Meanwhile, Kyler Murray, at 5’10”, is one of the shortest quarterbacks in the league, alongside Carolina’s Bryce Young.
The prospect of Jeanty joining Murray in Arizona’s backfield would make for an exciting, if compact, on-field duo. But with the Cardinals at 6-4 and leading the NFC West, they might not have a draft pick high enough to snag Ashton Jeanty, a likely top choice for any team.
Could Texas Native Ashton Jeanty Be the Missing Piece for the Cowboys' Struggling Offense?
While Ashton Jeanty has sparked rumors of an Arizona Cardinals move, the Dallas Cowboys could be another perfect landing spot for the star running back. At 3-6 this season, the Cowboys have struggled with their offense, which ranks No. 21 overall and 31 in rushing.
They could use a fierce running back to boost Dak Prescott’s support and give their offense the spark it needs.
In Sports Illustrated’s 2025 NFL Mock Draft, the Cowboys were predicted to select Jeanty in the first round with the 11th pick. Jeanty even called Dallas one of his dream destinations last month on the "Kickin' It With Dee" podcast.
“If I can script it – my family’s all in Texas. All of the connections, all of the relationships, I just feel that would be the perfect city to play in,” Jeanty said.
A Frisco, Texas native, Ashton Jeanty has dominated all season, hitting at least 100 rushing yards in every game. In his latest performance against Nevada, he logged 34 carries for 209 yards and three touchdowns, pushing his season totals to an impressive 1,734 yards and 23 touchdowns.
For “America’s Team,” a rising talent like Jeanty with Texas roots might be the answer they need.
