Ashton Jeanty's Heisman campaign gets a boost with College GameDay visit, one week after Travis Hunter's appearance
Boise State Broncos running back Ashton Jeanty is one of the most exciting players and stories in college football. He has brought massive attention to the program and is on pace to thread Barry Sanders' all-time rushing record of 2,682 yards.
This week, he sat down with College GameDay to talk about his experiences, one week after Colorado Buffaloes' dual-athlete Travis Hunter did the same. Jeanty and Hunter are both projected to be finalists for the Heisman Trophy.
Hunter used his appearance on College GameDay last week to promote himself as a Heisman candidate and capitalize on the Buffaloes' successful season.
"I can't get the Heisman without my teammates," Hunter said on GameDay. "They do their job, I gotta do my job."
Hunter currently leads in the Big 12 Conference with eight receiving touchdowns. While he is doing things we've never seen from an athletic standpoint, Jeanty is putting up numbers we have not seen by a running back in some time.
Ashton Jeanty's eye-popping numbers this season
The last running back to win the Heisman was Derrick Henry at Alabama in 2015. Henry had 1,986 yards and 23 touchdowns. Today, Jeanty sits at 1,525 yards and 20 touchdowns with four games to go. He would need one touchdown a game to beat Henry in scoring and just over 100 yards a game to beat him in yards.
Jeanty's season low for yards in a game was 127 against Portland State. He's gone over 150 yards five times and over 200 yards three times.
Breaking Sanders' record would require Jeanty to have over 250 yards in each of his next four games. He's broken that margin twice: against Georgia State with 267 yards and against Washington State with 259 yards.
It will be interesting to see what topics come up in Jeanty's interview and if specific Heisman candidates such as Hunter are mentioned or discussed.
Boise State is set to play the Nevada Wolfpack for the opportunity to get to 8-1. Jeanty's one career game against them came in 2022 with 73 yards and a touchdown.
Hunter and the Buffaloes are set to take on Texas Tech as they look to keep climbing the mountain of Big 12.
