"Ashton Jeanty, you didn't send us any literature": Deion Sanders & Travis Hunter's attention to detail leaves CFB analyst impressed
Travis Hunter's team seems to be ahead of the curve and Ashton Jeanty in this Heisman Trophy campaign. On Monday's edition of ESPN's "College Football Final," sportscaster Matt Barrie showed his latest addition to his "Matt's Helmet Sticker" collection.
He showed a series of pamphlets the University of Colorado seems to have sent him and put a sticker on a Buffaloes helmet. He added:
"Saturday, we received Heisman literature from Colorado. Travis Hunter & Shedeur Sanders."
Joey Galloway, who was also on set, pointed out that Travis Hunter is outdoing Ashton Jeanty in the Heisman Trophy campaign, at least concerning the public relations side. Here's what he said:
"Ashton Jeanty, you did not send us any literature"
Jeanty and Hunter are the frontrunners for the coveted award this season. Several betting houses have stopped headlining odds for other players, highlighting their confidence that one of the two will be the winner.
At the moment, Bet 365 has Hunter as the clear favorite, with odds of -10000. Odds for Ashton Jeanty are set at +1800.
Boise State's Spencer Danielson favors Ashton Jeanty over Travis Hunter
Unsurprisingly, Boise State coach Spencer Danielson is one of the many who believe Ashton Jeanty is a better candidate for the Heisman than Travis Hunter. However, Danielson has taken it a step further with the coach putting into doubt Hunter's favorite status.
“Ashton Jeanty is the best football player in the country, and for me, if you’re one of the best players in the country, you play in a championship game,” Danielson said.
While he didn't directly mention Hunter, the second part of the statement seems aimed at Colorado's dual-way starter. The Buffs, unlike the Broncos, are missing on their conference's championship game, and the comment is a jab at that.
Jeanty is leading the nation in almost every rushing statistic. He has 2,288 rushing yards with 28 touchdowns in 312 carries. His closest competitor, yardage-wise, is North Carolina's Omarion Hampton who has 1660 rushing yards.
Hunter, on the other hand, has 1,152 receiving yards (fifth in the country) with 14 touchdown catches (second in the country) in 92 receptions. On defense, he has 31 tackles, 11 passes defended, one forced fumble and four interceptions.
The Heisman finalists will be announced on December 9th, while the award ceremony will take place on December 14th. The voting for the Heisman has already started, with the voters having until December 9th at 5:00 p.m. ET to make their choice.
