"Bama would never lose to someone like Tennessee": SEC fans disapprove CFP scheduling after Vols get smoked by Ohio State
The first round of the CFP is over, with Ohio State, Notre Dame, Penn State and Texas advancing to the quarterfinals. What has drawn the nation's attention is that all the higher-ranked hosts won their games, and by a large margin, calling into question some of the committee's selections.
Even the game expected to be the closest, Tennessee versus Ohio State, ended with a commanding victory for the Buckeyes, 42-17. This led fans to question the committee's decision to select Tennessee for the CFP, above teams like Alabama.
"Tell me Bama vs ND & Ole Miss vs PSU wouldn't have made for better games. SMU and IU had no business in the playoffs. Win totals don't equal best teams. Why have rankings, if it's just win totals that matter?" one fan said.
"And Bama would never lose to someone like Tennessee," another added.
Other fans disagreed with this view:
"Maybe don't lose three games and loss horribly in those games. Its really that simple. I can totally see Bama getting slaughtered by Penn State. Its just the state of college football right now"
"Bama and ole miss lost 3 games just like Illinois. I'd put Illinois in over them 2. Illinois didn't have bad losses. Bama lost to vandy and ole miss to Kentucky. Yall think the sec is so great lol. Settle down"
"Bama and Ole Miss had terrible seasons. So much whining from SEC"
"Bama and Ole Miss should have handled their business. You can’t lose to Vandy or to a team that lost 6 of its last 7 and expect to be rewarded"
Ohio State's Ryan Day on why his team prevailed over Tennessee in the CFP
According to coach Ryan Day, his team won because they just wanted it more than their opponent. After the victory, Day said to the press:
“You could tell from the jump that they had a look in their eyes that they were going to win this game”
“We called this game more aggressively, there’s no question about that.”
Ohio State faces a tall task next, as they will have to play No. 1 Oregon at the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1. The Buckeyes already lost a game to the Ducks in the regular season, with Dan Lanning's team winning by just one point at Eugene.
