Baylor starting QB 2024: Will Dequan Finn start for Dave Aranda in Week 1?
The Baylor Bears are going to look a bit different this season, starting with the quarterback position, as Bo Nix was selected in the 2024 NFL draft. As a result, there has been a quarterback battle between Toledo transfer Dequan Finn, Sawyer Robertson and true freshman Nate Bennett.
Will Dequan Finn be named the Baylor Bears starting quarterback?
As the opening game for the Baylor Bears approaches, the decision on the starting quarterback appears to have been made already internally. There seems to be a belief that Dequan Finn is going to be named the starting quarterback of the Baylor Bears, per Matt Zenitz, of 247 Sports and CBS Sports.
This makes a lot of sense when diving into what Finn has done throughout his collegiate career thus far. He was the 2023 MAC Most Valuable Player and in a conference that provides a significant amount of offense, his numbers did not disappoint.
Finn finished going 201-of-317 (63.4%) for 2,657 yards with 22 touchdowns to nine interceptions while running 123 times for 563 yards (4.6 yards per carry) with seven rushing touchdowns.
What should we expect out of the Baylor Bears in 2024?
The Bears are coming off an excellent season as they were able to make the Pac-12 Championship Game but lost to the Washington Huskies. With a significant switch in the quarterback position, as well as conference realignment landing the Bears in the Big 12 Conference, there is going to be a lot of excitement and challenges.
Offensive coordinator Jake Spavital has a lot of experience calling the plays and has a tough schedule with games against the Utah Utes in the second game as well as games against the Oklahoma State Cowboys and Kansas Jayhawks later in the season. Expect the Bears to play well and make a bowl game but not be in consideration for the Big 12 Conference Championship. Dequan Finn should have a strong statistical season in his first year with the Bears.
