The QB will be stepping into the massive void left by Caleb Williams, the 2022 Heisman-winning quarterback who dominated the field with over 8,000 passing yards and 72 touchdowns.

Moss, who has thrown just 59 passes for 681 yards and seven touchdowns in his career, now has the chance to lead the Trojans as their main man.

Why did Lincoln Riley promote Miller Moss to QB1?

Miller Moss will be taking the reins at USC. Coach Riley's decision comes after Moss outperformed the competition throughout spring practice and fall camp.

Moss had long been considered the front-runner, especially after his performance in the 2023 Holiday Bowl against the Louisville Cardinals, where he set a bowl record with six touchdown passes in a 42-28 victory. Riley's confidence in Moss was evident as early as Big Ten Media Days, where he stated,

"Miller had the best spring. There's no question if we were playing at that point that he would have been the starter."
“He's certainly ahead right now, there's no question about that," Riley said. "We're in a position right now where we don't have to name a starter. ... If we played today, it would certainly be Miller,” Riley said.

The Los Angeles, California, native has also taken on a leadership role within the team, a quality Riley and the USC management values in their athletes.

“He has a really good knowledge of the system and he does a great job sharing it with his teammates," said quarterbacks coach Luke Huard.

As Moss gears up for USC's season opener against LSU on Sept. 1 in Las Vegas, all eyes will be on the junior QB to see if he can live up to the legacy left by Williams.
