Boston College vs. Syracuse: box score, stats, game summary and more ft. Kye Robichaux
Boston College took advantage of a pounding rushing attack and a key defensive play to post a 37-31 win over Syracuse.
Syracuse (6-3, 3-3) has struggled through an up-and-down ACC slate. Last week, they outlasted Virginia Tech 38-31 in overtime, but the previous week, they were thumped by Pittsburgh 41-13. The Orange have been led by steady passer Kyle McCord, who transferred from Ohio State. Allowing over 300 rushing yards doomed the Orange.
Boston College (5-4, 2-3) started strong but had lost three straight games before Saturday's win, including a 31-27 heartbreaker to Louisville where the Eagles jumped to a big lead but could not hold it. With SMU and Pittsburgh still ahead on the schedule, this win was a pivotal game for the Eagles to reach .500 for the season and reach a bowl.

Boston College opened the game with a pair of early touchdowns and seemed to be in control behind its ground game. QB Thomas Castellanos struggled through the air and departed in the third quarter with an apparent injury. Syracuse answered with a trio of scores to take an early third-quarter advantage after a pair of short LeQuint Allen scoring runs.
BC tied the game on Kye Robichaux's second TD run, and then sacked McCord, forcing a fumble that resulted in a safety when Syracuse fell on the loose ball in their own end zone. BC never surrendered the advantage of that extra score thereafter.
The Orange fall to 6-3 ahead of a trip to California next week. Again, the Orange are already solidly within the bowl picture, although this loss will hurt their chances.
BC remains in the bowl picture, despite the apparent injury to Castellanos, who has battled injury concerns all season. Between a pair of battles with ranked teams, the Eagles' best shot at a sixth win is a home game with North Carolina on November 23.
