"Bro runs a fight club" "Fire Kirby Smart": CFB world goes wild at Georgia coach for shoving Mississippi State QB while arguing official
The Georgia Bulldogs defeated the Mississippi State Bulldogs 41-31 on Saturday afternoon, with Carson Beck throwing for 459 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. The game was almost done, with Georgia being 17 points up late in the fourth quarter when coach Kirby Smart went over to argue with the officials and felt rival quarterback Michael Van Buren Jr. was in his way.
A video shows Smart shoving Van Buren to the side, as the player was between him and the referees.
Fans were incensed by the actions of Smart, with one even calling for Smart's firing:
"Woody Hayes was fired!!! Fire Smart!!"
Others took a more humorous approach to the situation, in what seems to be a reference to the hit movie Fight Club:
"Bro runs a fight club."
Is there a culture problem in Georgia? According to some, there are:
"Culture problem."
In general, comments weren't kind to Georgia's coach:
Despite two INT Carson Beck breaks personal record with 459 passing yards
Georgia's quarterback Carson Beck might have thrown two interceptions, but he also managed to break his record for yardage in a single game. The player threw for 459 yards, a feat he had never achieved. Arian Smith was his best weapon, with five catches for 134 yards and two touchdown receptions.
On the ground game, Georgia put together a committee effort of 146 rushing yards, that brought another two touchdowns.
With the win, No. 5 Georgia moves to 5-1, and depending on other results tonight could move up. Mississippi State's Michael Van Jr., the victim of Kirby Smart's shoving, also had a good game with 306 passing yards, three touchdowns, and an interception.
Georgia in the end smashed Mississippi State with 605 total yards versus 385. The possession was almost evenly split, with Georgia having the ball 33 minutes and Mississippi State 26.
