CFB Hall of Fame coach makes his opinion clear on Kirby Smart's Georgia after statement win over Texas

CFB Hall of Fame coach Mark Richt shared his thoughts on Kirby Smart's Georgia Bulldogs after their recent big win over Texas. The No. 1 Texas Longhorns finally met their match on Saturday, falling 30-15 to Georgia.

During Monday’s episode of 'The Beat Show' on DawgNation, former UGA coach Richt praised Smart's team for staying calm under pressure.

With Georgia’s victory, Smart became the fastest coach to reach 100 wins at a single SEC school. Richt highlighted Georgia's physicality as a key factor in the game.

“Georgia has just built a certain way, especially up front on both sides of the ball,” Richt said. “I mean they're physical and as physical as Texas was and they were. They didn't have just a bunch of choir boys in there. They got some pretty damn good football players too.”

Richt explained that Georgia’s success comes from building strong habits throughout the season:

“You're creating enough really good habits throughout the weekend practice,” he said. “Obviously, spring ball, off-seasons in the summer ball camp.
“All these things that you do in practice week after week is trying to create habits that when the crap hits the fan you can still perform, you can still do the job that you have to do and you can't allow the emotions of the game.”

And that’s what Georgia did — they kept executing when it mattered, per Richt.

The loss brings Steve Sarkisian's Texas Longhorns to 6-1, marking their first defeat of the season. Meanwhile, Kirby Smart's Georgia Bulldogs also sit at 6-1 this week.

Kirby Smart reached a major milestone with his 100th career win. Georgia's 30-15 victory over Texas on Saturday night made Smart the fastest coach to reach 100 wins at a single SEC school.

It took him just 117 games, beating Nick Saban’s 118 and Steve Spurrier’s 120. That 117 games also ties him with Knute Rockne (Notre Dame) and Chris Petersen (Boise State/Washington) as the fifth fastest in NCAA history.

Smart’s 100th win came against top-ranked Texas, making him 3-1 against No. 1 teams.

“A lot of credit goes to a lot of people,” Smart said [H/t Red & Black]. “So many other people had an involvement in those 100 wins.”

Under Smart’s leadership, Georgia has remained a powerhouse, finishing with a winning record every season. Since 2021, they’ve gone 48-3 and claimed two national titles. In that time, Georgia has been flawless against everyone except Alabama.
