Chargers legend Shawn Merriman issues clear question to CBS as Coach Prime’s players feature in 2025 Hula Bowl
The 2025 Hula Bowl is set to spotlight some of college football's biggest stars, and some of Coach Prime’s players at Colorado are making waves ahead of the event. Six Buffs in Chidozie Nwankwo, Shane Cokes, BJ Green II, Justin Mayers, Mark Vassett and LaVonta Bentley will feature at FBC Mortgage Stadium in Orlando on Saturday at 10 a.m. MT.
Meanwhile, NFL legend and former Chargers linebacker Shawn Merriman questioned CBS Sports' decision to air the Hula Bowl on its network rather than exclusively through the app. On Saturday, he commented on Sanders' IG post:
“How CBS sports network is not airing this just on the app?”
Deion Sanders is already in Orlando to support his athletes. At a Friday gathering, he said:
"You're misconstruing an opportunity and a chance. See, a chance is something somebody gives you when they really don't trust you because they gave you that chance and they still gotta look over your back and check on you because they don't really trust you.
"But an opportunity I could give you and walk away because I know what I gave you, you're gonna treasure."

Shawn Merriman gives opinion on Coach Prime's plan for Shedeur Sanders
Shawn Merriman has weighed in on Coach Prime’s strategy for his son, Shedeur Sanders, ahead of the 2025 NFL draft. Merriman believes Sanders is making a savvy move by signaling that Shedeur won’t just play for any team.
In an interview with Fox on Jan. 8, Merriman said:
"Deion is smart by putting it out there that teams need to tread lightly as far as what they plan on doing. Anywhere in that top-five pick is really a blessing, but Prime is letting teams know they can't just assume they’ll land him."
This buzz comes as Merriman’s production company, Lights Out Sports TV, prepares to broadcast the Shrine Bowl, featuring the likes of Shedeur, Shilo Sanders and Travis Hunter. For Merriman, the broadcast is a dream come true:
"To get the opportunity now to have the live-streaming rights exclusively for us for the East-West Shrine Bowl practices, it's like, I wanted to play football as a kid. I dreamed about it."
Shedeur is a top prospect in this year’s NFL draft and could be a boon for any franchise that wants to solve its QB problem.
