Clemson vs. Stanford: Box score, stats and summary feat. Cade Klubnik
Cade Klubnik threw four touchdowns and ran for another score to lead Clemson to a 40-14 win over Stanford on Saturday.
No. 17 Clemson jumped to an early 17-0 lead and then cruised the rest of the way. The 3-1 Tigers were facing the unranked Cardinal in a geographically unusual ACC Conference matchup.
The Tigers, which suffered a season-opening beatdown from Georgia, had scored 66 and 59 points in winning their last two games heading into Saturday's matchup.
Clemson's offense was not quite as efficient as it had been in the wins against Appalachian State and NC State, but the defense held off Stanford.
The Cardinal, who fell to 2-2, were also looking to rebound from their own season-opening loss, a 34-27 setback to TCU. Stanford had won its next two games, easily topping Cal Poly and holding on for a 26-24 win at Syracuse.

Clemson vs. Stanford Game Summary
The Tigers forced a 4th down stop on Stanford's first possession of the game. Three plays later, Klubnik scored a 34-yard touchdown to give the Tigers a lead they would not relinquish. The Tigers added a short field goal later in the quarter to stretch their lead to 10-0. A short field before halftime allowed Clemson to score on a 3-yard pass from Klubnik to Jake Briningstool.
Stanford answered with a seven-play drive, reaching the end zone on a 19 yard pass from QB Ashton Daniels to Elic Ayomanor to trim the Tiger halftime advantage to 17-7.
Stanford's ground game kept the Cardinal competitive, with 236 rushing yards. QB Daniels did throw three interceptions, which hampered the comeback effort. After the third interception, Klubnik connected on a deep pass to Cole Turner that all but sealed the victory.
Clemson will now play at Florida State next week, which before the season seemed a likely battle for the top of the ACC. Needless to say, the Seminoles' struggle recasts that game. Stanford fell to 2-2 and will host 2-3 Virginia Tech next week.
